The Foaply Tips

Sell your photos

Are you taking great photos with your phone or your digital camera? Would you like to start selling them?

Foap is a great way to start turning your photos into real money. The first step is to download the mobile app (which is for free on iOS and Android devices) and upload your photos. Photo buyers searching for photos will find your images on the Foap Market where they can license them for $10 each. We split the money with you, so for each photo you sell you make $5 and you can sell the same photo unlimited number of times.

Here are some tips on how to increase your chances of selling your photos:

  1. Upload many photos

The more high quality images in your portfolio, the better. There are thousands of photos on Foap and our buyers are browsing through them constantly to find the perfect image answering their specific needs. By uploading many high quality images you increase the chances that someone finds your photo.

  1. Make it diverse

Try uploading really different pictures to maximize your chances. Sticking to one subject limits the number of your potential buyers. Upload your photos from vacations, from a barbecue party with your friends or from your morning walk with your dog. It’s all about authentic images showing everyday situations.

  1. Add relevant tags

Tags are keywords that you can describe your photo with – they make it visible in the search on the Foap Market, so it’s really important to tag your photos properly. You can add from 5 to 100 tags to each of your photos. It’s best to add as many tags as possible, but only those that really describe a photo in a relevant way. Imagine taking a shot of a mother with a child playing in the park. Now, think about the words the buyer might use when searching for this kind of image. It probably would be: “mother”, “kid”, “play”, “park”. You might add some additional tags if they really describe the most visible parts of the photo like: “smile”, “ball”, “dog”, “girl”, “trees”. Make sure to add only relevant tags. If for example there is a lake in the background, but it’s really blurred and hard to recognize, there is no point in tagging the photo with “lake”. No one looking for photos of lakes will choose to buy it and by doing that you’re making it harder for the photo buyers to find relevant photos.

  1. Get inspired

Flowers are beautiful, but let’s be honest – how many brands are using flowers in their communication? The best way to get an idea of what sells is to check the Latest sold tab in the app. These are usually photos of people and everyday situations captured in a really natural way.

  1. Engage with the Community

Foap is a Community of people passionate about photography. We all share the same passion, learn from each other and improve our skills. Engage with the Community, start following other Foapers, leave comments on their photos and rate the ones you really like. You might learn a lot and also more people will get to know you and your photos.

  1. Join Missions

Join the Missions and upload photos answering very specific needs of the brands. Be sure to read the description carefully and submit photos matching it exactly. Missions are a great way to challenge yourself and take photos of new things. They also have really nice prizes starting from $100.

Finally, try experimenting with different strategies and ideas on how to grow your portfolio. There are many factors that impact which picture gets sold and you need some time to understand them all well.

I love being photographed nude and taking photos of my girl nude. Is it ok to post our nude photos in the contest or post them for sale ?

Hi Lyle! Thanks for your question. Unfortunately we do not allow nude photography at this point, because underage users have access to the platform. We hope you can still enjoy Foap by participating in missions and uploading appropriate photos. Good luck 😉
