Shannon, congratulations on winning the mission! Your portfolio shows that you’re an active person – travelling, doing sports. How did you learn about Foap and why did you start using it?
I actually started using FOAP because my mom told me about it. She loves photography too and heard about it from a friend.
We’d love to get to know you better. Where are you from, what do you do when you’re not Foaping?
I am from Raleigh, NC. When I am not FOAPing I am taking care of my 3 children (11, 9, and 6). I also love to run and bake cupcakes.
The wininng photo is really interesting – it depicts the shadow of a balloon over beautiful forests. Could you share the story behind it? How did you manage to take this shot?
This photo was taken in the Yadkin Valley region of North Carolina. My husband and I took a trip there in late Fall to visit the local wineries. We also scheduled a hot air balloon ride. It was a beautiful, crisp, sunny day. I noticed as we were floating along that we were casting a very defined shadow as we went. I snapped a few pictures but I loved this one the best. The lake in the picture is shaped a bit like North Carolina as well. We had a great time – but we did suffer a rough landing from the balloon ride!
You photograph details a lot – part of an instrument, frozen twig. Why is that and what are the biggest challenges with that?
I like to photograph lots of things, but you are right – I do like to photograph details a lot. I think it is interesting to focus on a part of something that people may not typically consider first. There are lots of beautiful things to see within the bigger scene.
If you would choose a favorite photo on your portfolio, which one would it be? And why?
My favorite FOAP picture is the one of the bridge over the lake surrounded by lush green trees. You can just see the sun rays coming into the picture. I love this picture because it is a beautiful scene, but also because that is one of my favorite spots to go running. It’s very close to my house and I visit it often.

I am currently on a ski trip with my family. I don’t ski. At all. So I’m hoping to get some great snow and mountain pictures. I am also planning to enter the “Foot View” mission.
